Description
All LGV and PCV drivers attending this course will complete **7 hours of approved Driver CPC periodic training**. The course is delivered in an interactive classroom environment, with candidates taking part in discussions, exercises and activities designed to provide valuable knowledge and practical understanding of health and safety within their working environments.
Candidates will develop a clear understanding of how their roles, responsibilities and actions can affect not only their own safety, but also the safety of colleagues, customers, other road users and members of the public.
The course will enable candidates to demonstrate an understanding of key workplace hazards, including working at height, slips, trips and falls, and manual handling risks. This includes recognising the potential dangers associated with poor manual handling techniques, as well as understanding both acute and chronic effects that may arise from unsafe working practices.
Candidates will also gain an understanding of their responsibilities in relation to **Personal Protective Equipment**. This will include the importance of being issued with suitable and appropriate PPE, understanding when PPE must be worn, and recognising the role it plays in reducing risk and preventing injury.
Drivers will leave the course with an improved awareness of current road traffic legislation and recent changes relating to driving offences, including potential fines, penalty points and custodial sentences. The course will also consider the use of satellite navigation systems, including the problems and issues professional drivers may face when relying on such devices.
Driver fatigue will be discussed as a serious road safety issue. Candidates will gain an understanding of the signs and symptoms of fatigue, the risks associated with driving while tired, and the importance of adequate rest in helping to prevent incidents and collisions.
Upon completion of the 7-hour training course, candidates will leave with a stronger understanding of their health, safety and road safety responsibilities. They will be encouraged to take a more proactive approach to safety, both for themselves and for others who may be affected by their actions.
