• Meeting the Level 2 requirement

    The aim of Driver CPC is to improve road safety and help drivers become more professional in all aspects of their work. Legislation references that training must be delivered “at or above Level 2”. If there is evidence a periodic training course falls significantly below Level 2, the DVSA/DVA will not allow the hours to count towards the 35 hours required for Driver CPC periodic training and the training provider will not gain subsequent approval for the course without demonstrating that appropriate changes have been made.

  • Nearly all lorry drivers complete CPC

    New figures released week ending 11th September 2015 showed that almost 99% of lorry drivers stopped during roadside checks in the last year had completed their Driver Certificate of Competence (CPC) periodic training.

  • Taxi Driver Periodic Training introduced in Northern Ireland

    Taxi Driver Periodic Training has been introduced in Northern Ireland from the 1st September 2015. The purpose of periodic training is to raise the standards of the taxi industry and to develop the current skills of taxi drivers.

  • Flexible ID Requirements

    The ID requirements for Driver CPC Periodic Training have been amended to allow drivers more flexibility when attending courses. Before any training session starts, approved centres must check and evidence that all drivers have provided proof of their identity; they can do so using any of the following forms of photographic ID:

  • Approval is non-transferrable

    There is no provision under the "Vehicle Drivers (Certificates of Professional Competence) Regulations 2007" for the transfer of an existing approval to provide periodic training courses from one legal entity to another. An approval is not a negotiable asset and any changes of circumstance to the legal makeup of the centre should be reported to JAUPT without delay. Failure to do so may mean that any training delivered is not approved and will not be accepted as an entry to the "R&E Database".

  • Appropriate Course Names

    Driver CPC Periodic Training Courses should have an appropriate name, which reflects the content of the course but is not misleading. This is particularly important where a course has certification or accreditation from another body, and so meets the requirements for another syllabus.
